This week was all about those designs. It was an interesting 3 days now that I was a little more comfortable trying things out on gimp. I did have to rely a whole lot on youtube and google looking for instructions on how to do things on gimp. I figured them out slowly, but I got there. The daily creates were also fun. My favorite by far was the image with the silk painter. That is soothing to the sole on new levels.
Learning about design was cool because we don’t notice it but is surrounds us every day. 90% of our information is visual. Design keys into that 90% and creates reactions. Whether it be art, advertisements, or the usage of something. If we forget to look at design when we are creating things no matter the medium we will disconnect from the intended audience. I was discussing this subject with my family over dinner one evening and do you know what they said. According to my parents there are peoples whose job, in every industry, whose sole purpose is to look at the design from the customers perspective. That is crazy to me.
As far as actual class goes the place I am struggling is time. There are not enough hours in the day for me to do just this. We are doing a weeks worth of work in less than 3 days, yes it is less than 3 days because we don’t actually get to use all 24 hours of each day. I have forgone my excercise, I eat only twice a day simply because my family reminds me to, and the only time I get up from my computer is to go get pictures for the assignments of blitzes. The only time my family even sees me is when they come drop off what ever food because I don’t even have time to go to the kitchen and get it myself! I am up by 8 am, doing work by 9:30 am and don’t go to bed on some days until 3 am due to how many things I have to do. On top of all that I just got told the RA training for this up and coming semester will run my entire last week from 10 am – 5 pm with only one break. I don’t think I will survive. I don’t know what I am going to do. I like this class, it would be fun if it wasn’t literal torture.
